New speed limits – 30km/h for all estates

In February 2020 Fingal County Council ran a public consultation on changes to speed limit bye-laws. Last week councillors voted on the proposed changes. The changes took effect this week.

The most notable change is that the default speed limit in housing estates has been reduced to 30km/h. Riverwood estate was one of the pilot estates for this lower limit it was launched in April 2016.

Note also that the speed limit on Delwood Road has been reduced to 30km/h. It has a lot of houses facing directly onto it and has a primary school at one end.

Old Porterstown Road between Scoil Choilm and Clonsilla Road has a 50-30 periodic limit i.e. it will be 30km/h during school starting and ending hours and 50km/h at other times.

Over time speed limit signs showing the new speed limits will be rolled out throughout the county.
